Door-to-door salespersons need a Commercial Sales License from the City. They must also comply with Chapter 523 of the City Code. Here are a couple sections. You can call 645-4545 or 645-3111 to report violations.

Door-to-Door Solicitations, Columbus, OH

523.11 – Display of identification card.
All persons licensed under this chapter shall display their identification card in a prominent manner so it is visible to the public while conducting activities permitted by this chapter and, shall be subject to inspection, upon demand, by any license officer, law enforcement officer or by any person engaged in business with the peddler, solicitor or canvasser.

523.14 – Prohibited acts, hours of operation.
In addition to other provisions of this chapter, no peddler, solicitor or canvasser shall:
(a) Not operate between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. when engaged in peddling, soliciting or canvassing door-to-door in areas zoned as residential.
(b) Enter a private residence under pretenses other than for peddling, soliciting or canvassing.
(c) Fail, or refuse to leave peacefully private property immediately after the owner, occupant, landowner’s agent or representative has requested to do so.
(d) Enter upon the land of a private residence or multi-unit property to peddle, solicit or canvass when the owner or occupant thereof has displayed a “no peddling”, “no soliciting” or “no canvassing” sign on such premises.
(e) Peddle, solicit or canvass on a street or within an area which has been closed by the city of Columbus for a “special event” without the written permission from the event organizers.
(f) Peddle, solicit or canvas in city parks, to the extent that these activities are regulated under Chapter 919.
(g) Sell, offer for sale, barter, or carry for sale or barter or expose for sale any merchandise or services on private property unless express written permission has been granted by the property owner or agent authorized to do so. Written permission shall be furnished upon application or at the request of any license officer or police officer.

• Setting off fireworks in the City of Columbus without a permit is illegal.
• Noise disturbances after 11 PM is a violation of City ordinance.
• Neighborhoods/Communities have standards to live by for a reason.

Most of these so called “home invasions” are drug related and yes these people have been before a judge before. And these judges continually send these people right back into our communities to resume their drug selling and that they sure do boldly and proudly as if mocking the rest of the neighborhood. Yes, all this empathy about Heroin addiction and dealing and that we shouldn’t get too upset when a drug house is near to us, after all they are just making a living too right? Yep, YOU shouldn’t get upset because after all they are making a living, and as a consequence they bring the undesirable element such as people wanting to steal YOUR stuff and take to that house for trade; prostituting in YOUR alley and backyard for sex and if YOU were lucky enough YOU didn’t have to pick up that used condom because they didn’t use one; they leave their used needles and trash in YOUR neighborhood and YOU get to worry about whether YOU get to discard it before YOUR child finds it in YOUR backyard and starts to play with it; they don’t care or maintain the property they are living in and oh yes they are up late at night watching YOUR neighborhood but NOT for YOUR safety or well-being. And let’s not forget the constant loud street drama; constant traffic on YOUR street; sitting on their porch watching to see what YOUR “being home” schedule is so that they can schedule that visit to YOUR house when you are not home to “borrow” YOUR belongings; and oh those many cameras they have on their dilapidated house and garage that are not there to share crime activity to share with your neighborhood but rather to guard their inventory and to let them know when an armed gunman is getting ready to “pop” their house; and guns that seem to be the norm when they our in YOUR neighborhood because when they have one YOU feel only compelled (and rightly so) to have one too.

Our court system needs to find a better way to keep these people off the street and not let them off when community citizens work hard to get them off our streets. Drug dealing is the catalyst for most all other crime occurring on our streets such as domestic violence, gun shootings, and dangerous trained dogs escaping from their backyards. Shame on our judges for not seeing this especially when these judges campaigned in our neighborhoods and claimed to understand our plight. Shame on our city for passing out free needles and discussions of red boxes for proper needle disposal and now we’ll give our police officers Naloxone to carry to counter heroin overdoes but nowhere is there a discussion about how to deal with the drug dealing that is most likely on every block in our city if not two to three. Yep, we are sure on the right track.

I’m not trying to spread hate but when you see things in print like this and you review the Qur’an and understand their teachings, you have to stand your ground. Are all Muslims this hateful? No. Are all Muslims in our country this way? No. But the core teachings are there and it doesn’t invite to respect other’s beliefs. This is a problem. Show me I am wrong as I would like to believe that I am. I was taught to embrace all cultures, religions, and beliefs. I am not religious, never have been but I have never pushed my belief on others. I listen and accept all religions and have learned many things from people of other faiths. I’m saddened that I so struggle on this one.

Any idea who’s causing the problem???

If a decayed house on a property is vacant and an eyesore it becomes a hazard to the community regardless of the aesthetic or original building plan of that community. Vacant plots even if scattered within these communities can be developed by that community and beneficial to that community. Also vacant plots can be purchased by adjacent owner occupied properties thusly increasing the value of those properties and affectively increasing the housing value within that community. If at a later time housing demand for that community increases then there will be vacant land to build on. It is a win, win situation as opposed to leaving vacant housing to decay, promote illicit activity and depreciate the value of owner occupied housing in that community.

Well unfortunately that is not going to happen unless more funds are allocated to drug enforcement. Community leaders now try to get the drug selling houses reported to the drug line but the response time is slow because of so many calls or documentation and evidence submitted is not enough to make a bust. Drug selling is on the “fly” we need drug enforcement available on the “fly” as well.
